Day 1

1:10pm Flight from Manchester which arrives in Ljubljana at 4:35pm

So at the airport there *should* be a car waiting for us. I figured we couldn't do Slovenia properly without a car. I think it's actually booked in your name in case they needed a credit card for a deposit but then I've paid for pretty much the max insurance anyway so I don't even know if we'll need it. Still, remember to bring it and we need both of our licences.

Obvs I hate driving abroad so I didn't really want to be galavanting around too much on day 1 and we'll be getting there early eveningish anyway.

With that in mind the first place we're staying at is a 20 minute drive from the airport (more like 30 minutes at the speed I'll be going)

If I've done this right then if you click HERE then it should show you the hotel. If not, just Google 'Hotel Zbilje'

It's next to Lake Zbilje, which I've never heard of tbh but looked a nice place to begin.

I haven't booked any resteraunts or anything at this point so have a look and see if there's anything about that you want to try.

But yas, hopefully the evening will have us having a nice autumnal walk around the lake or something.

Day 2

Vessel rojsni dan! (Happy birthday)

Easily the most important day of the trip obviously.

Once you've opened the only present I managed to fit in the bag we've got breakfast at the hotel to be having.

After that, we're out of there, never to return to Lake Zbilje, probably, but hopefully it left you with a thirst for a bigger, better lake.

And so off to Lake Bled we go. I think it's like a 45 minute drive.

Now I have no idea how long we need in Lake Bled but I'm imagining us getting there about dinnertime. Once we're there, there are a few things to be cracking on with, like rowing a boat on the lake or going down that toboggan that overlooks it all. Straza Bled I think the toboggan is called. There's also a trampoline park, it's called Zaka fun park, in case you're enjoying yourself too much and need to reign it in.

I've read about an easy hike up to something called the Ojstrica viewpoint, which has nice views over the lake, but have a look and see what you think.

Given it's your birthday we also need to go and find some Bled cake so I can pop a candle in it. Apparently it's one of those things you have to try, it looks like a big cream cake.

Obviously it's your birthday so the hotel needed to be half decent ey.

Again, hopefully if you click HERE it should show you it. I'm 99% sure it's exactly the same as that apartment.

It's also within walking distance of another lake! Lake Bohinj, which is a close second to Bled by all accounts.

Hopefully it'll be a very nice day :)

Day 3

Bohinj & Ljubljana

The jazzy hotel doesn't do breakfast as far as I can tell, so if we haven't picked up some nice pastries then hopefully we'll find a little cafe out somewhere.

This is Sunday, and by all accounts a lot of the sort of independent shops and that kind of thing don't open, but we won't starve or anything.

This is the day I've got the least planned for. Mainly because I wanted to make sure we'd ticked off everything you wanted to do near Bled while we're up the top of Slovenia, and in case you wanted to check out Bohinj.

There's something called the Zlatolog fairy trail nearby, and Vogel cable car which takes you up to the top of the mountains for views and all that.

Once you've got your fill of lakes and mountains we'll scoot down to Ljubljana, which is the capital, and where we'll stay for the last 2 nights. Cars aren't allowed in Ljubljana so finding a hotel with parking that didn't need me to meet someone 10 miles away to pick up a keyfob was a bit of a faff, so we're in an Airbnb about as close to everything as I could get us.

The apartment is a bit crazy. It has a sauna. Have a look HERE

Day 4

Postojna Cave

This is another one of those things you apparently have to do while you're in Slovenia, so I've booked us tickets for it already.

It's about 45 minutes from Ljubljana.

We need to be there no later than 11:45 to get on the cave train, but maybe we'll just go earlier. There's also another thing I added on to the ticket called the Vivarium which is like an aquarium but for the cave creatures, I thought Lily might like that.

After that we're back in Ljubljana for the final evening. I figured anything that was closed on Sunday would be open today so it makes sure we've had enough time to have a proper look around.

Day 5

Home

All good things must come to an end. Obviously I say this assuming it will be good, if you have an awful time then this might be your favourite day.

The flight back is 10:15am, which is a bit grim I suppose. I'll need to drop the car back off at the airport, hopefully in the same condition I found it in, but at least there's no faffing with buses or whatever.

Back to Manchester for 11:50am. Easy. What's for tea?
